Dialoguing with Destiny
10/03/2025
Speaking to Destiny like Thanos speaks to Death.
“Ring” I hear that noise while i’m in the back. I move towards the cameras to check out who it is.
“Who is that?” I say. It is someone I have never seen before. She is new around here. That isn’t uncommon. We get new people coming in and out all the time. I do not recognize faces often.
She moves directly to the water cooler. She grabs a 16 oz plastic cup and pours herself a full cup. She stands there with her looking out at the main road. Her hair is brown like a Hershey’s bar. She is taller than most girls, but not domineering. Her beauty is masqueraded.
She sits down at the bar with her water, and the glass is half full.
“What can I get for you?” Lindsey says. “Oh, I really do not know what I want. What is good around here?” Destiny replied.
“We have a lot of coffee and tea alternatives. Dr. Feel Good is a popular option...” “I’ll take that one. Sounds like it will make some magic inside of me.” Destiny remarked.
That high pitch hissing starts. That means the water is heating up the tea bag. The machine has so much steam coming out it looks like a locomotive. “You’ll tea will be ready in about 5 mins. It needs to steep” Lindsey told Destiny.
I am in the back wiping up the stainless steel tables with the shitty white towels that suck at absorbing liquid. “I hate these towels” I exclaim.
Lindsey walks back into the kitchen to refill some of the speed pourers. “Who is that girl out there?” I question. “I do know, why?” Lindsey said with some sass. “No reason, she is just kind of cute.” I note. “Go talk to her, you have a voice.” she said with some condescension.
I finish up wiping down the surfaces on the fridge and the sink. There are some nerves starting to set in, because now I am in my head. Thinking about who that girl could be? Should I got out there and talk to her?
I take a breath and walk out from those saloon doors. I go wash my hands at the sink behind the bar. “What book are you reading?” I ask casually.
She smirks and goes back to reading her book.
I finish washing my hands and go back to work. I am in the kitchen thinking about that moment. That rattled me. I haven’t had that happen to me. She knew I was trying something. Maybe in a way she knew I was trying to flirt with her.
I complete a few more things off my mental todo list. Creating some fruit syrups, brewing some iced teas, and kegging up some Blue Lotus. 35 mins pass. She is still out there and I have my journal. I think to myself “If she sees me write that might impress her?”
I go out there as I have about 30 mins before the next thing needs to be started. I sit down next to her, with my headphones in. I say nothing as I begin to write. “This is just another day at the office” I say in my head. I keep writing, trying to think through this idea on letting go.
I finally take off my headphones, and she says to me “You write?” with a subtle undertone of shock. “Yea, I like to.” I say proudly. “It is something that has propelled me to greater heights. Something I hated when I was in school.” “What got you into that?” Destiny questioned. “I do not really know. I sort of started it in 2023. A way to push myself. It has shown me so much. It is a mirror” I relay to her.
There is a long pause... The espresso machine goes “hisssssssssss” the milk is being frothed for an iced vanilla latte someone ordered. “What is it you want?” Destiny asked.
“Like right now? Or for dinner?” I jokingly said. “No, out of life.” she snapped back.
“I want the nice car, the nice house, the money in the bank, and the trips around the world” I responded jokingly.
“No, not the materialistic things. What is it you yearn for deep down?” She penetrated deeper.
I paused a moment...
“I want to push myself to the limits. I want to go after things I deem worthy. Ultimately, trying to figure out what my bounds are.” I spoke with a bit of resistance.
Destiny sat there not saying a word. Just holding that space. Another 10 seconds went by without a word. Under her breath she said “I must go”.
“That quick?” I snapped back.
“You know what you must do. You already told me what you want. It is up to you to go after it.”
I sat there as she walked out the door. The sound of the that door echoed throughout my head “Ding!” A lightbulb went off in my head.
We all deep down yearn to say the things we keep inside. Not the surface level bullshit like gossip or the weather. The things we feel might get us in trouble or ostracized from the heard. Those are the things we tend to bury deep inside of us until Destiny brings it out of us.
Destiny shows her face through trials and tribulation. She never seems to show up when it is easy or simple. But you always seem to know when she shows her face. Even if she is disguised as a pretty girl at a bar.
